Create Your Own Leader.

I have previously stated that I have a natural passion for science and math. A metaphor that I can use to relate this passion to leadership would be to, "Fabricate the Leader inside of You!" In Science you can use many different concepts to create anything you want. In my own personal program I would create different labs where students can work together to create certain solutions, perfumes, or solids to develop the leader inside. So in a sense, while people are fabricating a project they will be fabricating themselves.

Activists and Leadership

"If there's one thing you need to be right now, it's fierce."

Tyra Banks has been one of the biggest influences on my life. I remember my mother and I would watch America's Next Top Model every Tuesday at 8 'o clock sharp. One characteristic that really drew me to Tyra Banks was her self-image. She promotes female confidence disregarding shape and size, as well as teaching woman the importance of class. To be more specific, Tyra has really helped me with my own self image. She was a Victoria's Secret Angel from 1997 to 2005. She was basically the the first Angel to break self-image barriers within VS because she was not very thin starting out, in fact Tyra was a D cup, as well as having a large butt. Which would inspire me to be an Angel, but height is not on my side(lol).

Tyra uses the eighth practice called "Giving Way to Passion". Clearly, modelling is Tyra's passion and she has modelled for huge industries such as Ford and Victoria's Secret. She uses her skill well and has been in movies and commercials. But most importantly is her portrayal of the ninth practice, "Lighting a Spark". She uses her passion to give other females the opportunities that she has had in her own life. America's Next Top Model was her hit series that gave women the chance to become models themselves and model for major agencies.

Success doesn't necessarily measure the capability of a leader. What really draws me to Tyra Banks is how she empowers woman to be the best they can be despite the media's promotion for female insecurity. She wants to see a woman portray class rather than sex, because woman are more than that. One of my favorite quotes by her, besides being fierce, is "Self love has very little to do with how you feel about

Passion with some Action.

I have the biggest passion for science. Science revolves around every daily human encounter. I love learning about what makes the world go 'round. Or what makes your iPhone touchscreen work. As a child, I was also interested in knowing more. I'm pretty sure my favorite question was "But why?". I can remember doing crafts in my room and thinking of new ways to do daily tasks.

Why am I so passionate about science?

Science means so much to me because I am a person who wants to know everything. Well not everything per say, but I am a logical person. I am always, always, doing math equations in my head. At football games I even think about the ratio of the running back's speed toward the defense's force of the tackle. Most people say that religion can not coexist with science, but I see it clearly. Can you say that God created science to create the world?

Not getting in too deep here though, I just love science with a passion. I love knowing how and why certain world applications work and I want to be that person that makes it work. My whole education revolves around science and implementing new technology to help the world run more simply/efficiently.

Saani's Extra Credit

Getting the phone call announcing I was an Emerging Leader was defiantly one of the happiest moments of my life. Not saying I doubted myself, but to actually feel as if someone specifically hand picked me to accomplish great actions at Winthrop made me proud. I couldn't wait to meet everyone, live together, and bond as a family. But after a few weeks, the excitement diminished and I was cast to think of my fellow Leaders as my peers instead of my friends; basically forcing myself to interact instead of actually wanting to speak. Leaving classes on Wednesday was as exhausting as it was to actually walk into ACAD and LEAD. Instead of feeling at one with everybody I really didn't want to be bothered by most of them.
"Like Clockwork" is an activity that will lye close to my heart for the rest of my life. It may not seem like it, but leaving "Like Clockwork" has made me love every Emerging Leader in their own way, whether or not we are close. Getting to have personal conversations and fun conversations and "oh my gosh, I love that movie!" conversations has just made me want to have more conversations. I sort of want to cry just thinking about it, but I'm in the library so that's awk. "Like Clockwork" has helped me interact with the other EL's like they're my family away from my family; we're all dysfunctional but I wouldn't want any other people to share this experience with. I know that I have gained some life-long friends on this journey and I can NOT(cannot cannot cannot cannot) I JUST CAN'T express my gratitude for Sanni, Alex, and Shobo. I love each and every one of you guys and each and every one of the EL's. I know we are going to make it through the semester.

"I have a dream today"

Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I have a Dream" speech is marked down in history as one of the most
powerful and influential speeches ever spoken to man.  The effect that the speech has had on the
nation is phenomenal and yet very personal. Every year we as a nation celebrate this man's triumph and courage and are asked what Mr. King has done for us. The answer is always the same: Martin Luther King Jr. has done more than enough for not only African Americans but for everyone as a whole. If taken into context, removing all the racial undertones and seeing past the civil struggle of the 1960's, Mr. King has shown the nation what it means to be a respectful leader.
During the speech Martin Luther King uses heavy repetition. "I have a dream today." The heaviness of the words sinks into your heart as you realize how fortunate you are to have someone who "dreams today". All people dream, but how many can say that their "dream of today" has shaped a nation into a tomorrow? Finis Origine Pendet is heavily demonstrated in the works of Mr. King as his beginning(his dream) will reside until the end(equality). Martin Luther King has shown the nation that being a leader does not require high status or fancy clothes. But being a leader requires humility, patience, strength, and a dream.

The power of his words encouraged others to proceed with their dreams also. That is what a leader does; Lead others to lead also. Martin Luther King is my hero because of his integrity and morals. Not only has he done more for me than I can thank, but he has also helped me decide the type of leader I want to exonerate. Someone who is passionate about their dream but not willing to sacrifice their morals for the ignorance of man. In conclusion, America celebrates this man because he is as important as the Founding Fathers, he is as brave as the first Thirteen colonies, and he refused to back down as the Generations to follow will not.
